Client Challenge: Electric Compressor Station for Israel Natural Gas Lines, delivering gas to Egypt, for potential future reverse flow from Egypt to Israel.
Technology: Siemens PCS7 Integrated Control & Safety System (ICSS) interfaced with S7 Unit Control Systems (UCS) supplied by Baker Hughes.
Size of System: Siemens S7 Unit Control Systems (UCS, supplied by Baker Hughes) integrated with S7 Process Control System (PCS) & Process Safety System (PSS) for Balance of Plant (BoP). 1 UCS per each of 3 Booster Gas Compressors, located in Unit Control Room (UCR), 1 Remote IO (RIO) PCS rack and 1 RIO PSS rack per each of 3 Booster Gas Compressors, 1 PCS rack and 1 PSS rack in each of 4 other RIOs for Shutdown Valves, Utilities and Buildings, Total 700+ IO in BoP, 130+ Flame/Gas detectors in process areas and buildings.

Scope of Project
This major design and engineering project involves installing the Electrically Driven Compressor Station, integrating essential process control and safety systems for secure monitoring and operation. The facility is equipped with adequate ESD and Fire and Gas (F&G) detection for safety assurance, adhering to the client's Fire & Gas shutdown philosophy. Detailed design information from Control Systems Architecture and Narrative will inform network design, HMI interfaces, and operational controls in various modes.
Approach
We start with developing a Functional Design Specification aligned with the client's control objectives and (F&G) philosophy. The ESD system spans seven levels, detailed in a Cause & Effects spreadsheet with trip voting logic. Crucial coordination with the client and vendors includes conducting Integration and Factory Acceptance Tests, with Siemens as the ICSS vendor. Regular communication with the project team ensures alignment and timely issue resolution, especially in IT-OT Network design to meet Israel's cybersecurity requirements.
